All water supplies contain some amount of
calcium and magnesium, commonly referred to as hardness. Hard water is
undesirable for most commercial and industrial uses because of its tendency to
form mineral scale, soap scum and chemical sludges.
Water softeners utilize ion exchange resin
to exchange the calcium, magnesium and other scale-forming minerals for sodium.
Since sodium does not form hard mineral scale, the process is referred to as
water softening.
Bauer Engineering’s ICS, ISF and
ISV Series
softeners in capacities from 18,000 to 3,600,000 grains are commonly used in
commercial and industrial applications to avoid scale formation, increase the
efficiency of soaps and detergents and for chemical processing requirements.
Applications
Typical applications include boilers,
humidifiers, reverse osmosis feedwater pretreatment, water heaters, cooling
towers, car washes, laundries, hospitals, hotels, apartment complexes, resorts,
beverage bottlers, plating shops, manufacturing plants and chemical processing
industries.
Bauer Engineering’s ICS, ISF and ISV Series water softeners are designed to
provide years of trouble-free service in demanding industrial and commercial
applications. Fiberglass resin tanks are used for corrosion resistance and long
life. High capacity ion exchange resin provides superior efficiency with minimal
salt consumption. Brass multiport control valves are included for reliability
and corrosion resistance. Automatic meter initiated regeneration is available on
all systems. |

Design
Features Include:
-
Premium quality ion
exchange resin – provides exceptional capacity and hardness removal with
excellent resin life. Resin meets FDA regulations and is approved by the U.S.
Department of Agriculture.
-
Fiberglass mineral
tanks – fiberglass reinforced polyester or polyethylene resin pressure vessels
are provided for corrosion resistance. They are seamless, rated at 150 psig and
meet the requirements of NSF, UL and UPC.
-
Brass body control valves – supplied for durability and corrosion
resistance. The valves are equipped with Teflon-coated, motor-driven pistons for
smooth operation and automatic flow controls for reliable regeneration.
-
Brass body water
meters – standard on ICS9 and ICS95 Series softeners and optional on all other
ICS Series softeners. The meter initiates regeneration based on actual water use
to reduce salt consumption
-
Twin alternating
systems – provide an uninterrupted supply of soft water. The ICS9 and ICS95
Series softeners are furnished as twin units with an automatic alternator
standard. The ICS10, ICS15, ICS20 and ICS30 Series softeners can be furnished as
single, twin or triple systems with a wide variety of alternator systems.
-
Fully adjustable
regeneration program – allows the regeneration cycle to be tailored to each
application.
-
Polyethylene brine
tank with dry salt platform – eliminates corrosion and minimizes cleaning
requirements. An air check assembly is supplied to prevent drawing air into the
system.
-
High flow
distributors – two grades of gravel are combined with high flow distributors to
provide even flow distribution with low pressure drop.
-
ASME tanks – ASME
Code tanks can be provided as an option for large custom systems and demanding
requirements.
-
Custom designed
systems – microprocessor controls, nested valve systems and larger capacities
can be furnished to suit the application requirements.
